now, i dont mean im getting old; what i mean is my generation of gamers (the first of the hardcore) is getting older. we're getting into our early-mid 20s...now when you go to a store to buya agme and you're 10-15 theres no prob with that, its noremal nowadays, hell, its virtually a right of passage.
now if you buy a game and you're in your 40s or 50s (i do know a FEW people my parents age who play games, but very few) its again normal, because parents buy stuff for their kids.
but if you're in your early-mid 20s and you're buying a pc game (stuff like HALO, SOCOM, racing games and sports games dont count, as virtually everyone owns a platform) i dont know about you guys, but i just feel odd...like i should be doing something more worthwhile with my time...like buying a bottle of jack.

anyone else of the first truly hardcore gaming generation feel this way?

I think there are several people who would argue, that your generation is not the first of the "hardcore" gamers. As is evident by the people your parents age, who've been playing them for much longer. If you're talking PC-only games, then I suppose you could look at it this way.

And no, I don't find it weird at all. Half the games nowadays are directed towards more mature audiences anyway (17+ being the rating, college students and the like making up much of the player base.)

I'm from the generation that started playing in the days of Doom2. I learned networking as a teen just to be able to play FPS, and it evolved into a career. Now I'm in my mid-30's and still gaming strong. My twitch aiming skills aren't as sharp as they used to be when I was still a member of a top-ranked quake clan, but I can still hold my own. Best of all, I managed to get my former girlfriend/now-wife also addicted to my hobby.

You're only as old as you want to be. I'm planning on riding my mountainbike once our local rainy season ends.

Old? You're not yet 30 and you're an "old" gamer? HA! Got you beat baby. I will be 31 and my husband 32. We remember the dawning of a new era. Pong: 1st ever home video game console. Galaxian: 1st RGB color monitor videogame. Colecovision, Atari, Intellivision. Donkey Kong, where we first met Mario and that little blonde princess who keeps getting kidnapped. The sights, the sounds, the high scores. I think I first played Pong when I was 4 or maybe 5. Pinball slowly faded from pizzerias to be replaced by game tables with Galaxian and later on Galaga, Centipede or Pac-Man. I remember Pac-Man cereal, cartoons, lunchboxes. Yes. I'm an old gamer. I saw it all happen. And played most of them. And I'm not embarrassed when I am in line with a bunch of 20-year olds waiting for the truck to bring my next fix.

Akhilleus, I'm not embarrased but I do have lots of friends my age who play too, so to us it's a typical shopping trip.
